Ground Floor – Internal Condensation
LOOSENING OF PVC FLOOR COVERING OF SPORTS PAVILION

CAUSES OF THE PATHOLOGY

The PVC floor covering had come loose because of internal condensation at the glue joins caused by a lack of an effective vapour barrier and by fluctuations in the hygrothermal conditions of the indoor atmosphere of the pavilion.
As the PVC floor covering was largely impermeable to water vapour, it functioned as a kind of vapour barrier, located in a part of the building that was cold at night, when the ground temperature was higher than the indoor temperature.
The water vapour condensed at the glue joins of the floor covering, leading to glue degradation and buckling at the weakest points (joins).
